The work begins with the body and, more deeply, with the anatomy that animates it. Within this framework, the loom is conceived as an apparatus of weaving and tension, akin to muscle fibres. A matte white ceramic structure defines and supports it, framing an enquiry into identity. The faces depicted in each Trasguardi are internalised presences: traces of encounters and absences which, as they intertwine, help shape who we are in everyday life.
The artist embroiders as if drawing out the threads of these expressions, allowing them to surface through an unrestrained, organic use of colour, left to spread and blend like paint on a palette. The stitches do not follow a codified tradition: they are invented to navigate obstacles, to hold things together, and to bring to the surface what operates at an unconscious level. Stitching thus becomes a double unit—rational, a contemporary mark close to the pixel, and at the same time ancient, tied to the gestures of manual labour and mending. The knot, finally, acts as a structuring principle: it holds forms together and builds connections, making visible a continuous entanglement and the process of making itself.
