The pasta workshop

This project is a collaboration with the artist Christian Holstad. It grew out of our shared reflections on the affinity between shaping clay and kneading fresh pasta. As a lecturer at the Academy of Art in Bolgona, I proposed the workshop at the Sculpture Department, to encourage students to experiment with non-traditional approaches and languages.
Developed over three academic years, the workshop uses pasta—like clay, a material with strong agency and transformative vitality—to help students break pre-set patterns and explore how a personal gesture can remain consistent while changing form through different materials. Making pasta in a sculpture classroom creates an uncanny space of freedom, where everyday actions become poetic tools for rethinking practice and turning lived experience into art.
